About the Program

Biologists study all living organisms from many different angles, from the molecular level to the level of ecosystems. This is a broad field that prepares students for work in diverse industries, including pharmaceuticals, healthcare, and conservation.

As York’s longest-established scientific program, Biology is home to internationally-recognized teaching and research faculty. This program offers a diversity of courses from across the discipline, providing you with the flexibility to explore from many different areas of life science or to specialize in a particular field.

Our Biology program focuses on developing independent analytical and applied skills through research projects and laboratory investigations. Through hands-on training, our courses will give you a firm grounding in the core concepts of Biology as well as the techniques and methods of biological research.

        Applied Learning Opportunities

Gain real-world experience, build marketable skills and apply theories learned in the classroom through Experiential Education (EE) at York. These hands-on learning experiences can occur within a course, community, or work/professional setting and include opportunities such as co-op, internships, practicums, placements, capstone projects, field courses, community-based research or case competitions that happen in a class. During your degree, you will deepen the learning objectives of a course or program, apply knowledge and be better prepared for the job market after graduation.
