York University offers a variety of scholarships and awards that recognize academic excellence, resilience and community leadership. Some financial awards require that you submit an application for consideration, while other entrance awards are automatically assessed and awarded at the time of your admission.

Entrance scholarships, awards and bursaries available to Canadian high-school applicants are listed in the following table. For awards requiring an application, submit the application via MyFile as noted below. You do not need an offer of admission to apply for scholarships, awards and bursaries. Complete the application early so that you are considered for the most awards possible — some scholarships close to applications as early as February 15. The application closes April 1. If you qualify for one of these awards listed, you will receive an e-mail or letter letting you know the name of the scholarship or award you have received and the value. Note: Applicants to the York-Seneca-Georgian Collaborative Nursing program are not eligible for York University Entrance Scholarships & Awards.

- Be a department or faculty office assistant, library or research assistant, lab or gallery monitor or similar
- Work from 10-20 hours per week, conveniently between classes
- Salaries range from the provincial minimum wage to more than $20 per hour depending on the nature of the job
Apply for these positions in late August/early September.

International Scholarships and Awards Requiring an Application
York University is committed to giving a broad demographic of students access to a high quality, research-intensive learning environment committed to the public good. We champion diversity and inclusivity, embracing differing perspectives, peoples, and ways of knowing, and fostering global fluencies and cross-cultural knowledges. International students who attend York University have access to a wide variety of supports, academic, financial, and otherwise to help them in meeting their academic goals.
To be considered for the scholarships and awards below, you must submit the International Student Scholarship & Award Application. These scholarships and awards are for applicants with an exceptional academic profile, and who demonstrate leadership through community service or excellence in the arts or sport. Students do not need an offer of admission to apply for York entrance awards and scholarships.

Important dates:
The Fall/Winter 2025-2026 application will open in December 2, 2024.
The application deadline is February 15, 2025.
Full details will be available in the International Student Scholarship & Award Application form when it opens in December.
Note: A 9-digit York reference number is required, which you will receive within 5 business days of applying to York. Ensure that you submit your application for admission well in advance of the scholarship application deadline February 15, 2025.
Requirements:
- Must be an international student who is required to have a Study Permit to study in Canada
- Must have applied to an undergraduate degree program at York that begins in Fall 2025
- Must have applied to York directly from high school no more than two years after graduation, and have no previous university or college studies (not applicable to Tentanda Via Award)
- Must have an excellent academic record with a minimum “A” average or equivalent (where applicable)
- Must have demonstrated leadership through community service or excellence in the arts, sports, or other areas of individual achievement (where applicable)
- Must upload one letter of recommendation or other supporting documents as applicable
- Must ensure all required documents are shown as “Received” in the York application (MyFile), by February 15, 2025 at 11:59:59pm, Eastern Time
- Must complete and submit the online International Student Scholarship Application by February 15, 2025 at 11:59:59pm, Eastern Time
Terms and Conditions:
- All undergraduate international students are required to pay the $1,500 non-refundable acceptance deposit regardless of scholarship status.
- All admission conditions must be satisfied, and the recipient must accept their offer of admission by the deadline indicated in their offer letter to maintain scholarship eligibility.
- Scholarship offers will be automatically deferred for applicants who defer their admission to the Winter 2026. Applicants who elect to defer their admission beyond the 2025-2026 academic year, will be subject to the scholarship program in effect at the new point of admission.
- International entrance scholarships/awards are applicable to students paying international tuition rates only; York reserves the right to revoke or discontinue the scholarship if the recipient’s tuition category changes to domestic.
- The President’s International Scholarship of Excellence or the Tentanda Via Award cannot be held in conjunction with the York International Scholarship of Distinction International, the York International Merit Award International, the York International Merit Award International and the York International Transfer Award International but can be held with faculty specific awards.

By submitting the International Student Scholarship & Award Application, you will be considered for the scholarships listed below except for the Tentanda Via Award (you must specifically select the Tentanda Via Award on the application form to be considered):

Preference will be given to applicants who are Francophone. Glendon applicants will automatically be considered for this award if they apply for the President’s International Scholarship of Excellence. |

BAND FUNDING
If you are a First Nations (status), Métis or Inuit student, you may be eligible for postsecondary financial support to help offset the costs of tuition, books and supplies, travel and living expenses. Given that each Band, Tribal Council or other funding agency has its own postsecondary policy, you will need to contact your Band or Tribal Council directly. The Coordinator of the Centre for Indigenous Student Services, Randy Pitawanakwat, can assist you during this process. Contact Randy at rpitawan@yorku.ca.

How to apply for Band funding:
- Contact the Education Counsellor at your local Band office to have a postsecondary education application package sent to you.
- Carefully read the policy and guidelines. Complete and send out the application before the required deadline.
- Your Band office will inform you if you have been approved. Follow through with any additional requests from the Band.
If you receive Band funding, your tuition fees will be paid directly to the University by a third party (your Band). Submit your sponsorship letter to Student Financial Services at the time of your enrolment. You must pay your registration deposit within five business days of enrolling in courses to maintain your enrolment status; York will then bill the third party for the balance of your fees. In some cases, your Band may also set up an account for you at the York University Bookstore to pay for your textbook costs.
